A Throop man broke into an apartment and assaulted a woman who had a protection-from-abuse order against him, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Devin Michael Davis, 28, faces a felony charge of strangulation, as well as misdemeanor charges of criminal trespass, simple assault and harassment.<\/p>\n
According to the complaint, Throop police officers responded to a George Street residence for the report of a PFA violation at about 5:30 p.m. on Monday.<\/p>\n
Because Davis had a history of violence toward police, Throop officers also requested Dickson City officers to respond, police said.<\/p>\n
Officers spoke with the victim, Mariah Matthew, who said she was getting ready to leave for work when Davis broke into her apartment.<\/p>\n
The woman said Davis choked her until she lost her breath. Officers noted she had red marks on her neck.<\/p>\n
Matthew said Davis had broken into her apartment before but she was too afraid to contact police because she thought he would hurt her.<\/p>\n
Officers noted Davis had been arrested multiple times for violating the PFA order and assaulting the victim.<\/p>\n
Officers found Davis hiding behind a door in an adjacent apartment.<\/p>\n
Police detained Davis at Taser point and handcuffed him. He attempted to break free from the handcuffs, but officers were ultimately able to secure him in a patrol vehicle.<\/p>\n
Davis was transported to the police station, where he urinated on the floor of the holding cell and continued to attempt to break free from the handcuffs, police said.<\/p>\n
He remains at Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
