Tilly Lockey, a British motivational speaker, social media star, presenter, model, advocate and role model to people of all ages, will bring her message of inspiration to Good Shepherd Rehabilitation\u2019s 2026 \u201cBoundless Speaker Series,\u201d 6:30 p.m. June 3 on the South Allentown Campus, 850 S. Fifth St., Allentown.<\/p>\n
At 15-months-old, Lockey contracted a severe strain of meningococcal septicemia. Described as \u201cthe worst case the hospital had ever seen\u201d and given 0% chance of survival, she beat the seemingly insurmountable odds.<\/p>\n
She faced one week in intensive care, three weeks in recovery, a secondary infection, 10 blood transfusions and the amputation of both arms.<\/p>\n
Lockey, 20, will travel to Allentown to share her inspirational story with the Lehigh Valley.<\/p>\n
Adapting to a world that wasn\u2019t meant for her body, Lockey experienced many challenges and hardships, but is the first to advocate for the importance of one\u2019s mindset when it comes to determination. Not soon after she relearned to walk, she was experimenting with prosthetics, which weren\u2019t very functional, but incredibly realistic.<\/p>\n
The stigma of differences being something to hide away was one that surfaced at a very young age for Lockey. The origin of her message and work today is to showcase prosthetics in a beautiful light, accessorizing them as something to be proud of on runways, TV and social media.<\/p>\n
Lockey is an ambassador and co-developer of the Hero Arm, the 3D-printed bionic arms which she wears, produced by the prosthetic company, Open Bionics.<\/p>\n
This is the fourth installment of Good Shepherd\u2019s annual \u201cBoundless\u201d speaker series and is open to all ages.<\/p>\n
Host and former WFMZ-TV anchor-reporter Melanie Falcon is the evening\u2019s emcee. Following Lockey\u2019s talk, there will be a Q&A.<\/p>\n
Complimentary appetizers and beverages will be served. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
The \u201cBoundless\u201d speaker series is a free, ticketed event. It is open to the public. Accessible seating is available.<\/p>\n
