Philadelphia Democratic Party chair Bob Brady plans to run next month for another term at the helm of the party \u2013 but says he believes it will be his last.<\/p>\n
\u201cI want to spend these next four years of my term putting back the pieces, putting back the party together,\u201d Brady said in an interview on Friday, May 29.<\/p>\n
Brady said the progressive wing of the party has a “major role” to play in the party.\u00a0<\/p>\n
“They’re Democrats, we’re going to put it together, we’re going to reach out to them,” Brady said. “Hopefully they’re going to join in with us and we’re going to be together again, reaching out to say we need them, we want them and to make sure we’re all together again.”<\/p>\n
Asked about the possibility they don’t want to be part of the party as it is, Brady said “I’m not feeling that at all.”<\/p>\n
His comments come after the party-backed candidate lost a primary race in the 3rd\u00a0congressional district, and on the heels of then-vice President Kamala Harris\u2019 loss in Pennsylvania in 2024 \u2013 both of which have raised questions about the future for the party. <\/p>\n
Brady pointed to success in the recent Pennsylvania Supreme Court retention race when voters gave all three justices another 10 years on the bench.<\/p>\n
Asked if the party still has the same power it did 25 years ago, Brady said yes \u2013 adding that he was here 25 years ago.<\/p>\n
Brady, however, did indicate changes are coming for the party in the city where Democrats far outnumber Republicans but where a progressive wing of the Democratic party has recently flexed its muscle in elections. \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to do things a little differently. Naturally we want to go out there and reach out to other people, reach out to our young people, reach out to all different \u2013 canvassing, knocking on doors, again, social media, we\u2019re going to be doing that. We\u2019ve got a lot of young men and women are who are going to be able to do that more than we ever had,\u201d Brady said.<\/p>\n
Brady also said he has talked to state Rep. Chris Rabb, the self-described Democratic Socialist who recently won that third district race and said he plans to support and vote for Rabb.<\/p>\n
