RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) -Rapid City Public Library kicked off its summer reading program with a dinosaur theme, offering families reading logs, prizes, and hands-on activities.<\/p>\n
The event included fossil and excavation stations where children could dig and brush off dust like paleontologists.<\/p>\n
Rapid City Public Library Events Coordinator Aly Quinn said the response has been positive.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been so exciting seeing all the kids thrilled coming in, we have so many different activities for them, and of course, the food stations are a big hit, but we have games where kids can win little prizes, and the shows are about to start, and they should be pretty fun too,\u201d Quinn said.<\/p>\n
The Black Hills Institute of Geological Research participated with dinosaur and fossil presentations. The institute brought fossils and skeletons to display throughout the library.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are doing some fossil and dinosaur shows, and were partnering with them throughout the summer for a few different other events, and they have brought in some dinosaurs into the library as well, so we have a few different fossils and skeletons scattered throughout the library,\u201d Quinn said.<\/p>\n
Families can pick up reading logs at the library to track progress for prizes tied to the America\u2019s 250th birthday celebration challenge.<\/p>\n
