SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE\/WYOU) \u2014 A splash of colors is visible outside Scranton City Hall thanks to an annual event. About a hundred or more people gathered on Sunday for the 8th annual Scranton Pride Flag Raising.<\/p>\n

The rainbow flag is in place for the start of June, which is Pride Month.<\/p>\n

Several speakers addressed those on hand to talk about the importance of diversity, unity, and acceptance for the LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it sends a pretty powerful message showing people that the City of Scranton is for everyone,\u201d Scranton City Council and Scranton Pride Committee member Jessica Rothchild said.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people feel when they\u2019re part of the LGBTQ community, they\u2019re the \u2018other.\u2019 But when we do things like today, where we have a big public display, and we wave the flag, it shows you\u2019re not the \u2018other.\u2019 You\u2019re just like us. We\u2019re all one,\u201d In This Together NEPA Community Organizer Shawn Reilly explained.<\/p>\n

Events planned in Scranton for Pride Month include a vigil on Courthouse Square on June 14 and Nay Aug Park Pride Family Fun Day on June 27.<\/p>\n
