LOWER MERION\u2014Lower Merion officials are reminding residents that its regulations on gas-powered leaf blowers go into effect June 1.<\/p>\n
Narberth\u2019s restrictions go into effect later this year.<\/p>\n
Under the township\u2019s new regulations beginning June 1 and running through Oct. 1, using a gas-powered leaf blower will be prohibited.<\/p>\n
The next stage goes into effect in 2027, when gas-powered leaf blowers will be prohibited from Jan. 1 to April 1, and once again from June 1 to Oct. 1. In the winter, spring, and summer of 2028, the gas-powered leaf blowers will be prohibited from Jan. 1 to Oct. 1.<\/p>\n
Finally, beginning Jan. 1, 2029, and every year after that, gas-powered leaf blowers will be totally prohibited in Lower Merion.<\/p>\n
In Lower Merion, discussions about regulating leaf blowers have been ongoing since at least the early 2000s. \u00a0The township finally adopted the regulations in November 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cGas-powered leaf blowers create air pollution and noise pollution, contribute to climate change through the release of greenhouse gas emissions, and impair the health, social welfare, peace, and quality of life of persons residing and working in Lower Merion Township,\u201d according to one section of the new ordinance. \u201cThe practice of blowing leaves and other debris for property maintenance has unintended environmental and health consequences. The blowing of leaves, dust, and debris causes fine particulate emissions and disruption to pollinator habitats. Exposure to fine particulate matter may impact workers using this equipment, individuals with respiratory conditions, children, and other vulnerable populations. Accordingly, the purpose of this ordinance is to reduce the adverse impact of such equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n
In the Borough of Narberth, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers will not be permitted from Sept. 1 to Oct. 1, 2026.<\/p>\n
In 2027, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers will be prohibited from Jan. 1 through April 1, and from June 1 through Oct. 1. In 2028, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers will be prohibited from Jan. 1 through Oct. 1.<\/p>\n
Beginning Jan. 1, 2029, and every year thereafter, the use of gas-powered leaf blowers will be prohibited year-round in Narberth.<\/p>\n
In Radnor, discussions over regulating leaf blowers are ongoing, with the township\u2019s Environmental Advisory Council recommending that the commissioners ban gas-powered blowers.<\/p>\n
