A 20-year-old Scranton man wanted by state police for receiving a stolen motor vehicle ran from city police Wednesday, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Police charged Nasir Cheatum with flight to avoid apprehension, evading arrest and defiant trespass.<\/p>\n
Officers responded to 131 N. Bromley Ave. around 11:25 p.m. for a report of two juveniles threatening the caller in relation to an earlier incident, police said.<\/p>\n
Earlier in the evening, units responded to the same location for a report of juveniles repeatedly slamming a basketball off parked vehicles, officers said.<\/p>\n
When a vehicle owner approached them about their behavior, the juveniles began arguing and threatened the caller, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Police returned to the scene after the caller reported the same two males were threatening her again, officers said.<\/p>\n
The caller told officers one male was wearing a grey sweatshirt and face mask and the other was wearing a black sweatshirt and face mask, police said.<\/p>\n
Later, the caller told officers that one of them appeared to be a juvenile and the other appeared older, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
After receiving the call, police began checking the surrounding area and an officer located two males \u2014 matching the descriptions \u2014 who were walking in the area of Jackson Street and Robinson Avenue, officers said.<\/p>\n
When they noticed the officer, both males fled on foot through the housing project on Meridian Avenue and then ran through a fence leading to baseball fields off Oxford Avenue, police said.<\/p>\n
An officer located a 16-year-old boy, but Cheatum fled up the staircase leading into Marino Park and jumped the fence into the park before running through Novembrino Park and continuing to flee on foot, according to the criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Police eventually apprehended Cheatum in the area of Washburn Street and 10th Avenue, officers said.<\/p>\n
Surveillance footage from the housing complex showed both males enter Apartment 210 and place a backpack in the apartment before exiting moments later, police said.<\/p>\n
As of Monday, Cheatum, 226 Meridian Ave., remained in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
