NORRISTOWN \u2014 An argument about a parking space on a Lower Merion street ended with a New Jersey man facing time behind bars for striking another driver in the head with a glass bottle.<\/p>\n
Justin Raymond Thompson, 31, of Toms River, N.J., was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 6 to 23 months in the county jail after he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aggravated assault in connection with the Sept. 9, 2024, disturbance in the unit block of Greenfield Avenue in the Ardmore section of Lower Merion.<\/p>\n
Judge William R. Carpenter, who accepted a plea agreement in the case, ordered Thompson to report to the jail in Lower Providence on June 3 to begin serving the sentence.<\/p>\n
Thompson also must undergo drug, alcohol and mental health evaluations and comply with any recommendations for treatment, the judge said.<\/p>\n
The judge ordered Thompson to have no contact with the victim. Thompson also must pay the victim, an Ardmore man, $1,418 in restitution.<\/p>\n
An investigation began about 1:28 p.m. Sept. 9 when Lower Merion police responded to the Greenfield Avenue location for a report of an assault.<\/p>\n
The male victim advised that he was standing outside his parked Jeep Compass, saving the parking spot next to his vehicle for a road assistance service that he called to help him with jump starting his vehicle, when Thompson pulled up in a Ford Transit van and wanted to take the vacant parking spot.<\/p>\n
The victim \u201ctried to explain why he was saving the spot,\u201d according to a criminal complaint filed by Lower Merion Police Officer Michael Rosales.<\/p>\n
\u201cThompson did not care and continued to pull into the spot anyways. A verbal argument ensued and Thompson walked over to (the victim) with a glass bottle in his hand and grabbed (the victim) by the neck,\u201d Rosales alleged in the arrest affidavit. \u201c(The victim) started to push back and then advised that Thompson took the glass bottle and hit him over the head with it twice, causing it to break into pieces and cut his head open.\u201d<\/p>\n
Thompson then got back into his vehicle and fled the scene, according to court documents.<\/p>\n
By pleading guilty to the aggravated assault charge, Thompson admitted that he attempted to cause or intentionally and knowingly caused bodily injury to another person with a deadly weapon, specifically, a glass bottle.<\/p>\n
