{"id":208043,"date":"2026-06-02T03:41:39","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T03:41:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/208043\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T03:41:39","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T03:41:39","slug":"sf-public-library-launches-summer-stride-challenge-with-reading-events-across-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/208043\/","title":{"rendered":"SF Public Library launches Summer Stride challenge with reading, events across city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A summer reading challenge from the San Francisco Public Library will return this year with a slate of events and activities starting Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Library\u2019s SummerMobile will also return to make trips at four locations around the city throughout the summer starting June 8.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Summer Stride Challenge encourages participants to finish 20 hours of library-related learning, which includes reading, listening to audiobooks, and attending activities hosted by the library that encourage literacy and community connection, according to a statement from the San Francisco Public Library.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Activities start this week, with a presentation on edible and poisonous mushrooms scheduled for Monday, June 1, at the Marina Branch from 3:30 to 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On Saturday, multiple \u201cSummer Stride Kick Off Parties\u201d will be held at the Bernal Heights, Richmond, and Portola branches.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 2025, over 30,000 people completed the challenge and about 90% of participants said the challenge influenced them to read more than usual, according to the Public Library.<\/p>\n<p>Other activities planned<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other free events scheduled as part of the Summer Stride Challenge include grilled cheese socials, circus lessons, photography, craft clubs, live musical performances and more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/sfpl.org\/summer-stride-2026\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/sfpl.org\/summer-stride-2026\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">full list of events<\/a> and ways to track hours logged can be found on the library\u2019s website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those who complete the challenge will get a special edition tote bag designed by this year\u2019s featured artist, the author and illustrator <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nidhichanani.com\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.nidhichanani.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nidhi Chanani<\/a>, author of \u201cWhat Will My Story Be,\u201d \u201cBinny\u2019s Diwali,\u201d and other books.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Multiple events will showcase Chanani\u2019s artwork and books throughout the summer, including a slate of festivities as part of Library Day on June 20 at Yerba Buena Gardens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Library\u2019s SummerMobile will also return from June 8 through Aug. 31.
