A Scranton man who fled from Taylor police Saturday afternoon crossed into oncoming traffic and put others at risk, police said.<\/p>\n
Police charged Dawson Alan Card, 26, of 2320 Pond Ave., with fleeing officers and endangering others, including the passengers in his own vehicle.<\/p>\n
Officer Elijah Izak was monitoring traffic in the 700 block of South Keyser Avenue at about 4:30 p.m. when he spotted Card in an SUV speeding southbound, according to a criminal complaint.<\/p>\n
Izak attempted to stop the vehicle, but instead of stopping, Card continued to speed south while passing other vehicles and crossing over the solid double line into oncoming traffic.<\/p>\n
Card turned right onto Walnut Street and stopped, but then continued to speed up Walnut Street, turning right onto Laurel Lane with police following him.<\/p>\n
As the vehicle came to a stop on Laurel Lane, the rear driver\u2019s side door opened and Marquitta Ward emerged distraught.<\/p>\n
Chad Thomas then exited the passenger side of the vehicle and approached police. He was also upset.<\/p>\n
Card stepped out of the vehicle and initially failed to comply with a police directive to return to his vehicle, which prompted Izak to draw his service weapon, police said.<\/p>\n
Card then complied and returned to the driver\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n
A records check indicated Card didn\u2019t have a valid driver\u2019s license.<\/p>\n
Officers noted that Card endangered the passengers in his vehicle as well as other citizens as he fled officers.<\/p>\n
Card told police the vehicle belonged to his girlfriend.<\/p>\n
He is also charged with driving without a license.<\/p>\n
