\n\tA season eight Love Island<\/a> USA Islander is already catching flak, but it\u2019s not from fans. <\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Sean\u00a0Reifel, 29, was revealed as one of the castmembers<\/a> for the new season of Peacock\u2019s hit reality dating show<\/a>, a mayor in Pennsylvania called out the Islander for quitting his job to join the show.<\/p>\n

\n\tBefore being cast, Reifel was working as a police officer for the Bethlehem Police Department. \u201cI\u2019m not a model, not an actor, I\u2019m a police officer actually,\u201d Reifel said in Peacock<\/a>\u2019s\u00a0\u201cMeet the Islanders\u201d video <\/a>that was released last week. \u201cYou could be having the worst day of your life, and I\u2019ll just help you sift through that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tBut William Reynolds, the mayor of Bethlehem, recently shared that Reifel actually resigned from his position at the police department before going on Love Island USA, local ABC station WHTM reported<\/a>. The police captain also confirmed Reifel was no longer employed with the department.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOur police department spent a lot of time training and we paid thousands of taxpayer dollars to send him to the police academy. We are disappointed he left as we now have another vacancy in our department that is impossible to fill until next year,\u201d Reynolds said. \u201cI never thought I\u2019d see the day in America where reality show participation wins out over being a police officer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to a post on the Bethlehem Police Department\u2019s Facebook page, Reifel was sworn in as an officer on Aug. 18 last year. \u201cPlease join us in congratulating Officer Reifel and wishing him success as he embarks on this journey of service to our community!\u201d the post read <\/a>at the time.<\/p>\n

\n\tReifel was among 12 other Islanders announced on Thursday for the new season. However, Vasana\u00a0Montgomery was dropped<\/a> from the show days ahead of the premiere after social media posts surfaced of her allegedly using the N-word.<\/p>\n
