LOWER MERION \u2014 Lower Merion Township officials are in the process of hiring an engineering firm to help with the design of dozens of new ADA curb cuts in the township.<\/p>\n
As part of a $200,000 contract for 32 new curb cuts, Lower Merion will contract with Carroll Engineering for engineering consultant services in conjunction with the township\u2019s planned project.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe major project to be undertaken is the rehabilitation of 32 ADA curb cut ramps throughout the township. The [t]ownship has allocated approximately $200,000 in [Community Development Block Grant] funds for these services and for the construction of the ramps. The firm selected will also be under contract to provide engineering services as needed for Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation projects,\u201d according to a staff memo to the commissioners.<\/p>\n
The one-year contract includes a provision to allow for two additional one-year extensions.<\/p>\n
Adam Szumski, chief financial officer for Lower Merion, said the township hasn\u2019t used Carroll Engineering, but the township staff that has worked with them in other areas were comfortable with their qualifications.<\/p>\n
\u201cTownship staff received two proposals; both proposals were complete and strong, however the review committee selected Carroll Engineering on the basis of both considerable experience and cost,\u201d according to the staff memo.<\/p>\n
The 32 curb cuts are along intersections on Levering Mill Road. The work will begin at Levering Mill and Ford Road and continue to Derwen Road.
