(WBRE\/WYOU)\u2014\u00a0The Lady Royals will have a new face at the helm after Ben O\u2019Brien\u2019s departure to the Lafayette Leopards, and they are coming off an NCAA Championship berth this past season.<\/p>\n
The University of Scranton Executive Director of Athletics, Dave Martin, announced that Kaitlyn Lewis has been named the next head coach of the women\u2019s basketball program.<\/p>\n

Lewis will become the ninth head coach at the university after spending four seasons at the Division 1 level, including last season as an assistant coach at Rider University, following her service on the coaching staff at her alma mater, American University, during the 2024-25 season. Prior to that, Lewis spent two seasons as an assistant at Lehigh University.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are excited to name Kaitlyn Lewis as our next head women\u2019s basketball coach of the Lady Royals,\u201d Martin said. \u201cHer ability to build relationships and recruit quality student-athletes makes her the ideal person for this job. She helped the Lady Royals achieve tremendous success as an assistant coach here, and we are excited to welcome Kaitlyn back to Scranton.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lewis spent time in Scranton as the Lady Royals\u2019 assistant from 2019-2022, playing a role in recruiting now-senior contributors Meghan Lamanna, Katie Gorski, Elizabeth Bennett, and Natalie Stoupakis.<\/p>\n
While an assistant, she helped compile a 58-8 record, three conference championships, and an NCAA Division III Sweet 16 appearance in 2022.<\/p>\n

I am incredibly grateful to join a program built on years of tradition and success, and I will do everything in my power to honor those who have come before me and helped shape the program into what it is today.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lewis is an NEPA native as well, graduating from North Pocono High School, and looks to add to a Royals program that has won 11 straight Landmark Conference Championships, advanced to three straight NCAA Elite 8 appearances from 2024-2026, and earned a berth in the NCAA National Championship game this past season, finishing with a 32-1 record.<\/p>\n
