Four years after opening a manufacturing facility in Upper Macungie Township, premium pet food company Spot & Tango announced it is expanding its Lehigh Valley operations<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The company announced this week that it is investing more than $20 million and adding 70,000-90,000 square feet to its plant on Morris Court. The expansion will add about 50 jobs to its current workforce of 100.<\/p>\n

Spot & Tango Chief Operating Office and Co-founder Dylan Munro said the Valley has been a good manufacturing base.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe region has a strong workforce in operations, logistics, quality and maintenance, which matters a lot when you\u2019re operating a food production facility,\u201d Munro told The Morning Call. \u201cWe\u2019re also well-positioned geographically. It\u2019s a very strong logistics hub where we can ship efficiently to the East Coast and Midwest, and it\u2019s also close enough to our NYC headquarters so we can facilitate a strong relationship and physical presence between our teams in both locations.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re proud to be part of the community in the Lehigh Valley and we\u2019re excited to keep growing there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The company said it is expanding because of increased demand for its UnKibble brand, which has become one of the fastest-growing products in the direct-to-consumer pet food category. It is one of the products made in Upper Macungie.<\/p>\n

Its facility, which opened in 2022, is more than 66,000 square feet. The expansion will allow Spot & Tango to increase production from about 5,000 tons per year to about 10,000 tons per year of UnKibble, Munro said.<\/p>\n

Spot & Tango took over the additional space June 1 and expects the additional operations to be ready by July.<\/p>\n

Munro said the 50 new jobs will be across production, quality maintenance, logistics and warehouse operations.<\/p>\n

Spot & Tango is a direct-to-consumer, subscription-based brand, though some of its products are available on Amazon.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis model is core to how we operate; it lets us maintain the quality controls and customer relationships that define the brand,\u201d Munro said.<\/p>\n

Founded in 2018, Spot & Tango is a personalized pet health and wellness company focused on providing dogs with high-quality, human-grade meals excluding artificial additives, fillers and inexpensive preservatives. The company delivers its products throughout the continental U.S.<\/p>\n

The Lehigh Valley has been a manufacturing hub for pet food for years. ALPO has been produced in South Whitehall Township for decades and has roots to the 1930s, while Freshpet has been in Hanover Township, Northampton County, since 2013.<\/p>\n
