{"id":210737,"date":"2026-06-04T17:56:07","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T17:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/210737\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T17:56:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T17:56:07","slug":"bensalem-school-board-heads-toward-final-budget-vote","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/210737\/","title":{"rendered":"Bensalem School Board Heads Toward Final Budget Vote"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA \u2014 The Bensalem Township School Board is heading toward its final decision for how it will finance the 2026-2027 school budget.<\/p>\n<p>Faced with what school officials called <a href=\"https:\/\/patch.com\/pennsylvania\/bensalem\/severe-financial-situation-revealed-bensalem-schools\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">a &#8220;severe financial situation,&#8221;<\/a> school directors have taken measures to reduce a deficit that was initially reported as between $15-16 million with no tax increase.<\/p>\n<p>The school board opted in late April to eliminate 31 positions, including nine administrative posts, and over 20 elementary teachers, librarians, guidance counselors, and special education teachers.<\/p>\n<p>What remained was a budget deficit school officials said was around $2.52 million.<\/p>\n<p>With a final vote on the budget set for June 29, the school board this past week approved the proposed final 2026-2027 school budget, as per the state&#8217;s procedural process.<\/p>\n<p>At its recent meeting, the school board passed a proposed final budget on May 28 that includes $3 million in bond restructuring, $6 million in personnel and budget line reductions, and a 4.2 percent tax hike, the maximum increase allowed by the state.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed final budget shows $195.42 million in expenditures and $192.3 million in revenues.<\/p>\n<p>School Board President Deborah King said the district cannot survive further budget cuts.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, School Board Vice President Stephanie Gonzalez-Ferrandez stated that drawing more than $500,000 from the fund balance could require additional $2 million in cuts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA \u2014 The Bensalem Township School Board is heading toward its final decision for how it&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":210738,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[17],"tags":[191,193,192,194],"class_list":["post-210737","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-bensalem","tag-bensalem","tag-bensalem-headlines","tag-bensalem-news","tag-bensalem-township"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/210737","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=210737"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/210737\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/210738"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=210737"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=210737"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=210737"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
