HARRISBURG, PA \u2014 Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that Somerset County Sheriff Dustin Weir has been charged with corruption of minors following an alleged incident involving a teenage girl during a community event last year.<\/p>\n
Weir, 46, was charged Thursday by Pennsylvania State Police with misdemeanor corruption of minors. The charges stem from an alleged encounter that took place in December 2024 during a \u201cShop with a Cop\u201d event at a Walmart store.<\/p>\n
According to the Office of Attorney General, Weir allegedly pressured a 15-year-old girl, who was assisting at a photo booth, to accompany him to a store aisle where condoms were displayed. Investigators allege that once there, Weir attempted to take a photograph of the girl next to the display and made sexually explicit comments and questions, including remarks about what he would do if he were her boyfriend.<\/p>\n
Attorney General Sunday said in a statement that such behavior by a law enforcement leader undermines public trust, emphasizing that \u201ccriminal behavior will not be tolerated, regardless of occupation, title, or rank.\u201d<\/p>\n
The girl, whose identity is being withheld to protect her privacy, later reported the encounter to law enforcement.<\/p>\n
Weir has been mailed a summons to appear for a preliminary arraignment and hearing. The case will be prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Alicia Werner.<\/p>\n
All charges are allegations, and Weir is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.<\/p>\n
