{"id":211020,"date":"2026-06-04T23:10:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-04T23:10:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/211020\/"},"modified":"2026-06-04T23:10:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-04T23:10:12","slug":"source-red-sox-acquiring-left-hander-from-pittsburgh-pirates-for-cash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/211020\/","title":{"rendered":"Source: Red Sox acquiring left-hander from Pittsburgh Pirates for cash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Red Sox have brought in some additional bullpen depth.<\/p>\n<p>Following Thursday\u2019s game the Red Sox acquired left-handed reliever Joe La Sorsa from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for cash, a source confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>The La Sorsa trade was first reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AriA1exander\/status\/2062654386665345241\" rel=\"nofollow\">Channel 7\u2019s Ari Alexander<\/a>, who also reported that the 28-year-old lefty should join the team in New York when they open a three-game series with the Yankees on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>La Sorsa has pitched three seasons in the majors, posting a 5.21 ERA in 46 career outings with the Tampa Bay Rays, Washington Nationals and Cincinnati Reds. He has spent all of this season pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates\u2019 Triple-A affiliate, with whom he had a 3.46 ERA in 26 innings.<\/p>\n<p>La Sorsa reportedly became available after exercising an upwards mobility clause in his contract earlier this week, which required the Pirates to offer him to the other 29 clubs in MLB or add him to their big league roster. The lefty went unclaimed after exercising a similar clause at the end of spring training, but this time the Red Sox made a move.<\/p>\n<p>To add La Sorsa to the active roster the Red Sox will need to make corresponding moves to clear spots on both the 26 and 40-man roster ahead of Friday\u2019s game.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The Red Sox have brought in some additional bullpen depth.
