{"id":211903,"date":"2026-06-05T21:18:07","date_gmt":"2026-06-05T21:18:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/211903\/"},"modified":"2026-06-05T21:18:07","modified_gmt":"2026-06-05T21:18:07","slug":"allentown-planning-commission-delays-hearing-on-data-center-proposal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/211903\/","title":{"rendered":"Allentown Planning Commission delays hearing on data center proposal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Allentown Planning Commission has postponed a hearing on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcall.com\/2026\/05\/29\/allentown-data-center-proposed-emmaus-avenue\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">proposed data center<\/a> in south Allentown.<\/p>\n<p>The project at 2401 Emmaus Avenue was moved from the Tuesday meeting at the developer\u2019s request, according to an online <a href=\"https:\/\/allentownpa.legistar.com\/Calendar.aspx\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">agenda<\/a>. A new date has not been announced but will be no later than July 22, the agenda states.<\/p>\n<p>The planning commission in 2022 approved a 224,000-square-foot warehouse at the site. They\u2019re being asked to review new plans that call for a 23,342-square-foot addition to the building in order to convert it into a data center, according to the meeting agenda.<\/p>\n<p>The plans immediately drew criticism, with residents filling recent meetings of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcall.com\/2026\/06\/04\/allentown-tables-data-center-ordinance\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Allentown City Council<\/a> and its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcall.com\/2026\/06\/02\/allentown-environmental-advisory-council-hears-concerns-over-proposed-data-center\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Environmental Advisory Commission<\/a> to voice their opposition.<\/p>\n<p>City Council this week delayed a vote on a proposed data center ordinance that would limit where such developments would be allowed.
