A chance to raise money for programs and research benefiting heart and stroke patients is coming up in Erie.<\/p>\n
The annual Erie Heart Ball brings together community members, healthcare professionals, and supporters to advance the mission of the American Heart Association.<\/p>\n
The event focuses on increasing cardiac awareness and helping save lives throughout the community while raising funds for research, education, nutrition, and patient support programs.<\/p>\n
One local patient being recognized this year is Giovani Newsuan, known as Gio. Born with heart issues, Gio has undergone several open-heart surgeries and other procedures during his 10 years of life.<\/p>\n
Gio, who visited the Erie News Now studio in November of last year, has been selected as this year’s “Heart Hero” for the Erie Heart Ball.<\/p>\n
He will be among several survivors sharing their stories during the event as the American Heart Association works to raise money for research, nutrition initiatives, and other programs throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Returning as Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the event is Erie News Now’s Eva Mastromatteo. Erie News Now is serving as the proud media sponsor of the annual event.<\/p>\n
UPMC cardiologist Dr. Paul Kang is serving as chairperson of the 2026 Erie Heart Ball. He says the event is more than a gala.<\/p>\n
According to Dr. Kang, the Heart Ball serves as a powerful platform to elevate awareness and secure the critical resources needed to fund groundbreaking research and lifesaving education programs.<\/p>\n
The American Heart Association’s annual event continues to play a key role in supporting efforts to prevent heart disease and stroke while promoting heart health across the Erie region.<\/p>\n
The event will be held at the Ambassador Banquet and Conference Center.
