{"id":212345,"date":"2026-06-06T09:47:18","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T09:47:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/212345\/"},"modified":"2026-06-06T09:47:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T09:47:18","slug":"new-theater-group-produces-musical-about-young-marines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/212345\/","title":{"rendered":"New theater group produces musical about young Marines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cDogfight,\u201d a musical drama about young Marines during the Vietnam War, is on stage this weekend and next as part of the Standard Theatre Company\u2019s inaugural season.<\/p>\n<p>Performers from across Northeast Pennsylvania are part of one of the first full-scale productions by the newly formed arts organization.<\/p>\n<p>Active military members and veterans can buy half-price tickets.<\/p>\n<p>Set on Nov. 21, 1963, \u201cDogfight\u201d follows a group of young Marines determined to spend one final night of freedom before deployment.<\/p>\n<p>It is based on a 1991 movie and is written by Tony Award-winning composers Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the team behind \u201cDear Evan Hansen\u201d and \u201cThe Greatest Showman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a tender but brutal story of young people standing at a crossroads,\u201d said Mandy Bruno Bogue, director of the production. \u201cAt its heart, \u2018Dogfight\u2019 asks us to look beyond first impressions and recognize the humanity in one another. It\u2019s funny, heartbreaking and incredibly relevant, especially in a world where empathy can sometimes feel in short supply.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 7 p.m. on Sundays. The address is 213 S. Main Ave., Scranton.
