{"id":212575,"date":"2026-06-06T17:17:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T17:17:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/212575\/"},"modified":"2026-06-06T17:17:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T17:17:12","slug":"erie-canal-temporarily-closes-at-waterford-flight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/212575\/","title":{"rendered":"Erie Canal temporarily closes at Waterford Flight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WATERFORD \u2014 The Waterford Flight, which connects the Hudson and Mohawk rivers on the Erie Canal, is closed &#8220;until further notice,&#8221; the state Canal Corporation announced Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The closure of the Waterford Flight was caused by a mechanical issue, the agency wrote in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canals.ny.gov\/Boating-Information\/Canal-Alerts\/Message?id=9455150\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a notice to mariners<\/a>. Boaters are being encouraged to seek alternative routes.<\/p>\n<p>Because of the closure, the\u00a0Seneca Chief \u2014 a replica of a boat used by Gov. DeWitt Clinton on <a href=\"https:\/\/buffalomaritimecenter.org\/bicentennial-voyage\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a historic inaugural voyage from Buffalo to New York<\/a> Harbor on the Erie Canal in 1825 \u2014 will not be visiting Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady on Saturday, Discover Schenectady spokesman Al Roney said.<\/p>\n<p>The boat, built by the Buffalo Maritime Center, is currently on a 22-day trip across the Erie Canal with stops in communities along the way.
