Penn State senior Billy Schmidt was shot and killed in South Philadelphia, according to 6abc. <\/p>\n

The 22-year-old was walking home around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday from a local bar after watching the NBA Finals. Security cameras caught the suspect throwing Schmidt\u2019s phone, then the Penn State student chasing after them. Shortly after rounding a corner, the suspect turned and shot Schmidt in the chest. <\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a really good person who cared about everybody and never hurt or bothered a soul, never bothered anyone, and for him to get shot like that is a travesty,\u201d said Bill Schmidt, the victim\u2019s father, told 6abc<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Schmidt\u2019s dad later found his son\u2019s phone under a car and turned it in to the police. <\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m shocked when they stole his phone that he chased them,\u201d he said. \u201cSupposedly, when he got to the corner, another came out, and he shot him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police have not announced an arrest, nor have investigators released a motive for the suspected robbery. <\/p>\n

Schmidt\u2019s neighbors have helped in the hunt for the suspect, supplying police with security footage from their houses. Michael Smith, who lives nearby, said it\u2019s really important for the neighbors to come together on this. <\/p>\n

\u201cI want to find the two people and make them pay,\u201d Bill Schmidt said.<\/p>\n

Schmidt was planning to graduate in December. <\/p>\n
