A Penn State student preparing for his senior year was shot and killed while trying to stop robbers taking his phone \u2014 which was then just tossed under a car.<\/p>\n
Billy Schmidt, 22, was seen in surveillance footage being held up steps from his family\u2019s home in south Philadelphia around 1:30 a.m. Saturday \u2014 with a gunshot ringing out soon after he was heard pleading, \u201cGive me back my phone.\u201d<\/p>\n
He was rushed to the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.<\/p>\n
Surveillance footage captured a shooting that took place in South Philadelphia early Saturday on the intersection of 20th and Durfor Street. ABC WPVI<\/p>\n
\u201cOver a phone. It\u2019s abhorrent,\u201d Ezra Roulinavage, who lives near the shooting,\u00a0told NBC 10<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s just unbelievable that someone would kill someone over a phone.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n Schmidt\u2019s father, Bill, said his son had been heading home from watching the NBA Finals<\/a> with friends when he was killed for the phone, which he eventually found discarded under a car.<\/p>\n \u201cHe was a really good person who cared about everybody and never hurt or bothered a soul, never bothered anyone and for him to get shot like that is a travesty,\u201d the grieving dad told ABC 7<\/a>.<\/p>\n Billy Schmidt, 22, was walking home after watching the NBA finals when two young men appeared to steal his phone. ABC WPVI<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m shocked when they stole his phone that he chased them,\u201d the grieving father added. \u201cSupposedly when he got to the corner another came out and he shot him.\u201d<\/p>\n No arrests have been made yet over the shooting, with the investigation ongoing. <\/p>\n
