{"id":214209,"date":"2026-06-09T02:56:20","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T02:56:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/214209\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T02:56:20","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T02:56:20","slug":"ventura-reappointed-as-reading-city-council-vice-president-berks-regional-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/214209\/","title":{"rendered":"Ventura reappointed as Reading City Council vice president | Berks Regional News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>READING, Pa.\u00a0\u2013 As part of the new year reorganization, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.readingpa.gov\/images\/City_Council_regular_agenda\/01-08-24V2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Reading City Council<\/a> voted unanimously Monday night to reappoint Councilwoman Melissa Ventura to a two-year term as vice president of council.<\/p>\n<p>In late November, council voted to appoint Ventura as vice president after the role had not been filled in almost one year.<\/p>\n<p>But that appointment was only effective until Dec. 31.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am humbled that I&#8217;ve grown a lot since I&#8217;ve been on council,&#8221; Ventura said. &#8220;After four years, I feel more engaged, and this will be another growth in my experience here, so thank you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The reorganization work took place at council&#8217;s Committee of the Whole meeting, and then the regular meeting agenda was amended to have council vote on the appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Public works director<\/p>\n<p>In other business, council appointed Kyle Zieber as the city&#8217;s public works director.<\/p>\n<p>Zieber is a longtime employee of the public works department and was currently serving as the public works division manager and the acting deputy public works director.<\/p>\n<p>Council introduced an ordinance that will be voted upon in two weeks to set the salary of the public works director at $118,000.<\/p>\n<p>Liquor license transfer<\/p>\n<p>Also Monday, council voted to transfer a liquor license from Richmond Township to PM Beverage Inc., located at 1558 N.
