Tymell Millan-Mason<\/a> was shot and killed outside the McDonald’s on Union Boulevard on May 15th.<\/p>\n“We’ve become so desensitized as adults, now our kids believe that this is normal,” said Jeani Garcia, Executive Director of Promise Neighborhoods of the Lehigh Valley.<\/p>\n
Garcia lost her own son to gun violence, and now she’s helping another family deal with that grief. She said more needs to be done to get kids off the streets and involved in community programs.<\/p>\n
“We’re right next to the East Side Youth Center, which is an amazing organization, and we’re in an alleyway where a horrific crime took place. How are we getting these kids inside the doors of youth centers and programs?” said Garcia.<\/p>\n
And most importantly, Garcia said guns need to stop ending up in the hands of kids.<\/p>\n
“I think identifying where the guns are going to come from is number one. We have to identify where they’re at. We have 3-D printers here in our community that are being accessed to make ghost guns,” said Garcia.<\/p>\n
Garcia said, following these latest shootings, Promise Neighborhoods is organizing a discussion about violence.<\/p>\n
“We are going to be having a community forum very soon, a town hall to address these issues, specifically the spike here on the east side,” said Garcia.<\/p>\n
Allentown Police have not named a suspect in the shooting on E North St., but it is still under investigation.
