EXETER TWP., Pa. \u2013 Exeter Township\u2019s summer playground program will start on Monday, June 15 and run through Aug. 7 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lorane Hollow Park.<\/p>\n
During this time, the park will remain open to the public, but the use of other parks is encouraged due to the number of children who will be in attendance for the program to ensure the safety of the participants.<\/p>\n
The summer basketball program will also be starting on June 15 and will run through July 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with any makeup days being held on Fridays at Pineland Park. The basketball courts will be unavailable for public use during this time.<\/p>\n
Public Work Director Larry Piersol also reported that summer discount tickets have been provided to the township through its membership of the Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society. Discount tickets are available for pickup, cash only, at the township building during business hours. The tickets include admission to Knoebels, Hershey Park, Sesame Place, Morey\u2019s Piers, Adventure Aquarium and much more.<\/p>\n
Zoning\/planning<\/p>\n
Jason Hunter, zoning officer, presented a waiver request for a 60-foot well\/septic separation distance at 5700 Boyertown Pike, which was approved. The applicant originally requested a 15-foot separation distance. The planning commission did not support the request, so the applicant hired a new contractor and was able to redesign the plan to allow for 60 feet. The planning commission made a motion to approve the waiver request at its meeting on May 18. If approved, the applicant will install a new septic system and well system on the property.<\/p>\n
The supervisors also approved a sewer planning module for 170 and 180 Fairway Dr. The Board noted it has approved several of these modules in the recent past. Pennsylvania American Water is currently under a corrective action order from the state Department of Environmental Protection. During this action order, all connections to the public sewer system must be accompanied by a planning module and be approved by the township, no matter how big or small. In this case, the module is for two single-family homes being built along Fairway Drive.<\/p>\n
A final land development plan for the Archaea Energy\/Pioneer Crossing RNG facility was approved. Township engineer Joseph Rogosky said the Pioneer Crossing facility is changing how it processes the methane that is created at the facility. Currently, that methane is processed and used to power large generators that produce electricity. Electricity is then added to the main power supply in the area and used to power local homes and businesses.<\/p>\n
Pioneer claims this plan will capture the methane from the facility and convert it to natural gas. The gas will then be added to the local gas mains in the area and used much in the same manner as the electricity. The applicant received preliminary plan approval on in June 2025. Building permits will now be applied for in order to start the construction of the facility<\/p>\n
The board also approved a 30-day time extension for a land development plan for 3801 Perkiomen Ave. The applicant received preliminary land development plan approval May 19, 2024. There have been several obstacles the applicant has had to face from the time preliminary approval was granted, and the township has granted several time extensions over the last two years.<\/p>\n
The applicant has informed the zoning hearing board that all obstacles have been worked out, and they are now ready to submit final plans for review. Due to the plan expiration date of June 8, 2026, a last 30-day extension is required to get the final plans submitted. If time were to run out before final plans are submitted, the applicant would need to start the process again at preliminary stages.<\/p>\n
Right-to-know policy<\/p>\n
At the request of township manager William Heim, the supervisors approved a right-to-know policy update.<\/p>\n
According to Heim, the current policy has been reviewed and updated to ensure compliance with the Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law and to reflect current administrative procedures for processing public records requests. Adoption of the resolution will formally update the township\u2019s right-to-know policy to incorporate these revisions and ensure the policy contains current appeal information.<\/p>\n
In addition, the law requires the designation of an open records officer to receive, track and respond to right-to-know requests on behalf of the township. A resolution approved Monday formally appoints Kenya Edmonds as the open records officer and William Heim as the alternate to provide support and continuity in the administration of right-to-know requests.<\/p>\n
Police update<\/p>\n
Exeter Township Police Chief Steven Powell presented the Civilian Service Award to Craig T. Johnson for his assistance to ETPD officers during a May 15 disturbance at a food truck festival.<\/p>\n
Also, Powell told the supervisors that the ETPD will be assisting the Central Berks Regional Police Department with the funeral services of Ofc. Kristen Yeager, which will be held at Don Thomas stadium June 9. Information on travel and parking will be available on all ETPD social media sites.<\/p>\n
Manager\u2019s report<\/p>\n
