There are no shortage of festivals and events happening across the Pittsburgh region this summer. From the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival to Picklesburgh, the Steel City knows how to party.<\/p>\n

It comes as no surprise, then, that Pittsburgh is going all out for the nation\u2019s semiquincentennial birthday this July 4.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter recently being voted the best Fourth of July celebration in the country<\/a>, this year the City and our partners will be hosting more special events from our neighborhoods to our riverfronts to welcome families from across the region to honor the history of Pittsburgh and 250 years of the United States,\u201d Mayor Corey O\u2019Connor says in a statement.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Below, you\u2019ll find a round up of 12 local events, festivals and activities you can attend to celebrate Independence Day, Pittsburgh style.\u00a0<\/p>\n

City of Pittsburgh Independence Day Celebration | July 4<\/p>\n

After being voted USA TODAY\u2019s No. 1 Fourth of July Celebration in the country last month, the City of Pittsburgh\u2019s iconic Independence Day Celebration will return to Point State Park, Downtown, North Shore and Mount Washington on July 4.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The celebration will feature local food vendors, family-friendly activities, veterans wellness space, stages with entertainment, hot-air balloon and a vendor marketplace. Attendees will be able to see the festivities from above with the \u201cPiatt Companies Salute to Service Wheel,\u201d a temporary Ferris wheel that will run from July 1-5 on the North Shore. (The Ferris wheel was invented by a Pittsburgher, George Washington Gale Ferris Jr.) Tickets are on sale now<\/a> and 50% of all proceeds will be donated to the Veterans Leadership Program.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The BNY Main Stage at Point State Park will also be rocking with entertainment starting at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 4. The Plain White T\u2019s will be headlining the BNY Main Stage at 8 p.m. Shows are free and open to the public.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As part of the National Flag Foundation\u2019s Light to Unite, the city\u2019s skyscrapers will be illuminated in red, white and blue across Downtown at 9 p.m. This nationally organized tribute will light up buildings, landmarks and streets across the country.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Sponsored by the Richard King Mellon Foundation, 2026\u2019s fireworks spectacular is set to be the city\u2019s largest fireworks display in decades. For the first time, there will be a drone performance immediately before the fireworks start. The fireworks show will utilize six barges on all three rivers as well as some rooftops. Fireworks will begin at 9:35 p.m. on Saturday, July 4.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Time Capsule of Tomorrow\u00a0<\/p>\n

With the support of BNY and the City of Pittsburgh, the search has been on for the long-lost time capsule in the City-County Building that was placed at the time of the building\u2019s construction in 1916. City staff has been working to locate it and is hopeful to soon excavate the capsule to inspect the contents.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In June, Mayor O\u2019Connor announced that a new time capsule will be sealed in the City-County Building and invited residents to share their hopes and ideas with the City Archives for what to put in the capsule for the Pittsburgh community 100 years from now. Ideas for \u201cPittsburgh\u2019s Time Capsule of Tomorrow\u201d can be submitted here<\/a> from now until July 1.<\/p>\n

Regional Partnership Events and Activities\u00a0<\/p>\n

This year, the City has partnered with local and national organizations to enhance Pittsburgh\u2019s celebration throughout the days leading up to the Independence Day Celebration.\u00a0 More details and timings will be announced leading up to the events and can be found here<\/a>. June 25: History After Hours: America\u2019s 250th\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Heinz History Center in the Strip District\u202fwill host a special \u201cHistory After Hours: America\u2019s 250th<\/a>\u201d program, featuring five floors of cocktails, vintage shopping, crafts, American history trivia, interactive experiences and revolutionary fun.\u00a0<\/p>\n

June 27: Andy Warhol Bridge 100th Birthday Bash\u00a0<\/p>\n

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, join Allegheny County to celebrate the iconic Andy Warhol Bridge\u2019s 100th anniversary<\/a>. The bash will include an afternoon of music, food, games and art.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

June 27: America250PA\u2019s Commonwealth Concert Series\u00a0<\/p>\n

America250PA is ringing in the nation\u2019s 250th year with a series of concerts throughout the Commonwealth<\/a>. On June 27, Nelly and Third Eye Blind will take the stage in Point State Park with special guest Frzy and feature a state-of-the-art drone show.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0June 27-July 5: Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership Market Square America\u2019s 250th\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership will celebrate in the newly refurbished Market Square with special programming running from June 27 through July 5. Join them for family-friendly happenings, trivia, concerts and a lineup of special events, including:\u00a0<\/p>\n

June 30: Paint & Sip Special Edition in Celebration of America\u2019s 250th\u00a0
\nJuly 1: Wind Down Wednesday\u00a0
\nJuly 2: Farmers Market America\u2019s 250th programming\u00a0

July 1-July 4: National Flag Foundation Flag Sojourn\u00a0<\/p>\n

The National Flag Foundation will welcome unique and meaningful American and Pennsylvania flags to Pittsburgh. An American flag that has flown in every state in the Union \u2014 and a Pennsylvania Flag that has flown in each of the Commonwealth\u2019s counties \u2014 will arrive in one of their final stops during their flag \u201cSojourn 250.\u201d They will travel around the city and region before departing for Washington, DC and Harrisburg, respectively, on July 4.<\/p>\n

July 2, July 3, July 4, and July 5: Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Concerts\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra will be hosting a series of free concerts:\u00a0<\/p>\n

July 2 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hall with the National Flag Foundation\u00a0
\nJuly 3 at South Park with Allegheny County\u00a0
\nJuly 4 at Arts Landing with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust

July 3: Sing 250 Choral Series Concert<\/p>\n

In partnership with the Philadelphia Youth Choral Ensembles, America250PA is bringing the power of music and community storytelling to audiences across the Commonwealth through the America250PA Sing250 Choral Series. Pittsburgh\u2019s performance will bring the Bach Choir of Pittsburgh together with the South Hills Chorale at the O\u2019Riley Theater in Pittsburgh\u2019s Cultural District.<\/p>\n

July 4: Fourth of July at Arts Landing<\/p>\n

The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will celebrate at the new Arts Landing in partnership with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Music Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the Guardians of Sound Hip Hop Orchestra featuring INEZ will perform on the Dollar Bank Stage.<\/p>\n

July 4: Fourth at the Fort\u00a0<\/p>\n

Kick off America\u2019s 250th birthday with the Fort Pitt Museum and join costumed re-enactors, local veterans, scouts and elected officials to ceremoniously raise a 36-foot-tall American flag as part of a ceremony at 11 a.m. on July 4. An annual Fourth of July tradition in Pittsburgh, the ceremony will take place at the Fort Pitt Block House, owned by the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
