Herr\u2019s has announced the winners in its annual Flavored by Philly campaign.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s competition had a bit of a twist to it. Instead of submitting new flavor ideas, the public selected from a curated lineup of flavors the company said define both Philadelphia and the nation.<\/p>\n
With flavors inspired by the ideals of freedom, liberty and unity \u2014 the competition was renamed for this year to Flavored By Philly: Taste the 250 \u2014 in honor of the nation\u2019s 250th birthday.<\/p>\n

\u2022 Freedom Loaded Cheese Fries is a ripple potato chip seasoned to taste like crispy French fries topped with creamy cheese and smoky bacon. The chip is inspired by the bold and enduring vision of American independence first declared at Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Herr\u2019s said in its announcement of the winning flavors.<\/p>\n
\u2022 Liberty Hickory Barbeque is a ripple potato chip packed with barbecue-sauce flavor combined with sweet molasses and a smoky hickory flavor. It pays homage to the Liberty Bell.<\/p>\n
\u2022 United Jalape\u00f1o Cream Cheese is a ripple potato chip with bold cream cheese flavor paired with mild jalape\u00f1o pepper spice. This chip is inspired by the spirit of Betsy Ross, attributed with designing the first American flag and whose house in Philadelphia stands as a symbol of unity.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmerica\u2019s 250th is an amazing time to be able to share potato chip flavors made by the people for the people,\u201d Herr\u2019s Executive Chairman Ed Herr said in a statement. \u201cFlavored by Philly: Taste the 250 is our way of honoring the city that continues to inspire our flavors and our fans.\u201d<\/p>\n
This is the fifth year for the Flavored by Philly competition, which has become a popular event each year. This year was no exception: Nearly 100,000 votes were received during public voting from Nov. 12 through Dec. 10, the company said. The winning flavors are available in stores and online for the summer.<\/p>\n
Herr\u2019s Flavored by Philly launched in 2021 as a \u201clove letter\u201d to the region\u2019s food scene and community pride, the company said.
