READING, Pa. – Six people were arrested after a roundup of drug trafficking suspects in Berks County on Thursday.<\/p>\n
Detectives with the Berks County district attorney’s drug task force conducted the roundup in the early-morning hours, according to the DA’s office.<\/p>\n
The detectives attempted to serve arrest warrants on 13 suspects, who, the DA said, distributed controlled substances, including heroin, cocaine, and cannabinoids.<\/p>\n
“These individuals were not part of one large drug conspiracy, but they were individuals who were selling meth, cocaine, heroin,” District Attorney John Adams explained.<\/p>\n
Undercover detectives made 30 drug purchases from the suspects, Adams said.<\/p>\n
Adams added that the suspects were arrested in several Reading neighborhoods, including a home in the 1000 block of Washington Street and another on South Third Street.<\/p>\n
Another arrest happened in the 200 block of North Miller Street in Shillington.<\/p>\n
Those apprehended were Amyas Deleon, 25; Kaleb Lozano Gonzalez, 18; Pedro Jose Acevedo Sierra, 50; Michael Ortiz, 31; Hector Pitre Ramos, 36; and Timothy Cruz, 30.<\/p>\n
Gonzalez is from Shillington, while the rest of the suspects are from Reading. All are awaiting preliminary arraignment.<\/p>\n
While those six were arrested, seven suspects are still at large, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Investigators are still looking for Skyler Ganns, 27; Kidany Encarnacion-Figueroa, 28: Julio Caraballo-Cruz, 38; Maria Echevarria, 33; Theodore Bethea, 21; Luis Cruz-Hernandez, 22; and Aaron M. Lewis, 24.<\/p>\n
Lewis is from Sinking Spring and Ganns is from Shillington. The rest of the suspects are from Reading.<\/p>\n
Adams said he believes the buying and selling of drugs is the No. 1 problem facing Berks County.<\/p>\n
“Most of the violence that occurs in our county is somehow connected to drugs,” Adams explained. “If we could stamp out the drug problem, we could also probably stamp out a lot of the violence that occurs in our city.”<\/p>\n
