The Lake Erie Crushers and the Sheffield\/Sheffield Lake Adaptive Youth Baseball League recently participated in the Play Ball Weekend at Volunteer Field, 4840 Oster Road, which is located on the border of Sheffield Village and Sheffield Lake.<\/p>\n

In 2022, Ashley Kingsboro created the league to provide local children with disabilities the opportunity to play baseball in an organized setting.<\/p>\n

Hannah Forror also reached out, wanting to help make the vision a reality.<\/p>\n

Together, they created a league designed to be accessible for children with disabilities, developmental delays and special needs throughout Lorain County.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are happy to be here and helping the kids and the community,\u201d said Tracy Marek, chief marketing officer for the Lake Erie Crushers. \u201cThe Ford Ohio Assembly Plant is a big company in the community, and we are proud to have them partner with the Major League Baseball Play Ball Weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

The game took place June 7.<\/p>\n

Jason Carter, an assistant plant manager at the Ford Ohio Assembly Plant, was present for the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is great to be able to reach out and help the community,\u201d Carter said. \u201cWe have 15 volunteers; 12 are from the Ford Ohio Assembly Plant and some of their family members.\u201d<\/p>\n

Len Komoroski, chairman and managing partner of the Lake Erie Crushers, and his wife, Denise, are in their third season with the Crushers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has been terrific; this is what lifts the community for all walks of life,\u201d Len Komoroski. \u201cForeFront Field is a definite driver\u2019s destination; we are now up to 250 events and drawing 350,000 people this year for the events.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday\u2019s event is what it is all about: to get a chance to engage and lift the community, to work with the youth and see their growth, and have family fun for everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luis Acevedo, a second baseman for the Lake Erie Crushers, worked with the Play Ball Weekend participants.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is still a kids\u2019 game, and we give it all that we have got,\u201d Acevedo said. \u201cIt humbles you, and it is pretty cool to see the youth getting involved and having fun.<\/p>\n

\u201cHave fun and thank God for every opportunity.
