SCRANTON, Pa. – Genesee Valley Transportation, which will host Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014 on the Delaware-Lackawanna Railroad for its move into the Steamtown National Historic Site, is reminding those planning to be on hand to be aware of critical safety rules.<\/p>\n
No. 4014 will arrive at Steamtown on June 14. It will be on display June 15-16, then remain at the site through June 30 for maintenance before departing on July 1.<\/p>\n
In a press release<\/a>, the company notes it has a “zero tolerance” policy for trespassing on railroad property at all times, and especially for this event, and that railroad property is off limits unless specifically instructed by D-L or Steamtown employees at a designated area. “If a railroad employee asks you to move, in an effort to clear railroad property or right-of-way, please respect their wishes,” the release says. “They should be treated with the courtesy and with the respect they deserve. We are all working to make this a safe and enjoyable event.”<\/p>\n The company also asks that drone use be kept to a minimum “with respect and safety in mind.” While drones are under the jurisdiction of the Federal Aviation Administration, the release notes local authorities may become involved with violations involving personal property or reckless endangerment. “Please do not operate drones in a fashion that will be distracting to railroad employees or otherwise be perceived as a breach of safety or general railroad protocols,” the railroad said.<\/p>\n The release also notes that Delaware-Lackawanna trains will continue to operate while No. 4014 is at Steamtown, creating a “constant danger” for trespassers on the right-of-way.<\/p>\n “We are all working to make this event as safe and enjoyable as possible,” the release said. “Please work with us to guarantee the safety of railroad employees and the viewing public.”<\/p>\n Information on ticketed viewing and parking at Steamtown is available here<\/a>.<\/p>\n Reading & Northern, which will host the only excursion for the Big Boy on this trip, previously put out its own statement regarding spectator safety [see “Reading & Northern issues \u2026,”<\/a> Trains.com, May 22, 2026].<\/p>\n
