A major waterfront development is moving forward after receiving final approval from Erie City Council on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
Council unanimously approved the zoning ordinance needed for the proposed $14 million Bayfront Market House project, clearing a key hurdle for construction to begin.<\/p>\n
The 7-0 vote comes after an earlier council decision had raised questions about the project’s future. However, following additional review and discussion, council members voted in favor of the ordinance, allowing the development to proceed.<\/p>\n
The Bayfront Market House is planned for a currently underutilized section of Erie\u2019s waterfront. While the site may appear quiet today, project leaders say that will soon change.<\/p>\n
Officials with Erie Events confirmed that construction preparations will begin immediately following council’s approval. The project is expected to transform the area into a vibrant marketplace featuring local businesses, dining options, and community gathering spaces.<\/p>\n
Erie City Council President Dr. Tyler Titus, who voted against the ordinance during its initial consideration, supported the measure during the revote. Titus noted that revotes are uncommon for City Council but said additional information and discussion helped shape the final decision.<\/p>\n
Supporters of the project believe it will deliver significant economic benefits to the city.<\/p>\n
Ed Snyder, General Manager of the Bayfront Convention Center, emphasized that businesses operating within the Market House will contribute tax revenue while creating new opportunities for local entrepreneurs and attracting additional visitors to Erie\u2019s waterfront.<\/p>\n
Snyder also highlighted the broader economic impact of the development, pointing to ongoing construction activity in the area, including the new parking garage project. He said the goal is to begin construction on the Market House as quickly as possible and continue building momentum along the bayfront.<\/p>\n
