The Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic will perform at Harveys Lake, an animal sanctuary, a Honesdale arts center and other offbeat locales as it continues to add novelty to its repertoire. Patriotism is also on the playlist.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal with the Philharmonic is really to make every single concert a unique experience, through the music, the programming and other things, like combining with food and drink or having it at unique, at times unconventional, venues,\u201d said Executive Director Chason Goldschmitz.<\/p>\n

One of the first venues is the Cooperage Project, a nonprofit arts and community center in a historic building in Honesdale. The Philharmonic will celebrate 200 years of American women composers there on July 19 with \u201cAmerican Violin & Piano.\u201d Tickets are $17 in advance or $20 at the door.<\/p>\n

On Aug. 1, Lakeside Brass, a one-night-only quintet, will play jazz and Americana favorites on a dock at Harveys Lake for an audience in boats and watercraft on the lake. It is free for boat and watercraft owners who register for directions. Alternately, Susquehanna Canoe & Kayak is selling a round-trip guided sunset paddle.<\/p>\n

Then on Thursday, Sept. 10, a string trio will present \u201cCider & Wild Strings\u201d in the rustic Art Barn at the Indraloka Animal Sanctuary in Falls Twp. Upbeat George Gershwin pieces and fiddle tunes will be accompanied by cider and small bites for sale from Friedman Hospitality. Advance tickets are $16 for students and $29 for adults, with an upcharge at the door. The sanctuary will give an optional guided tour before the concert for $10.<\/p>\n

A big America250 collaboration is combined with the Luzerne County 240th Celebration on Friday, Sept. 25, at the F.M. Kirby Center for the Performing Arts in Wilkes-Barre. The concert will feature Pennsylvania heritage, artistic multimedia projections of local history, special guest narrators, dancers, and performances by area native Celia Hottenstein, whose extensive credits include \u201cWicked\u201d on Broadway, and Battle of the Bands winner Gracie Jane Sinclair. Tickets for the program start at $16 for students and $24 for adults.<\/p>\n

Old summer favorites are back, including free Independence Day concerts in Scranton and Wilkes-Barre and Yoga on the Roof in Scranton.<\/p>\n

Its \u201cSensory Friendly\u201d programs continue, with two free, short programs of jazz and Americana, one at Misericordia University on Aug. 1 and one at the Dietrich Theater in Tunkhannock on Oct. 5.<\/p>\n

Also on the schedule, concerts lit by hundreds of electric candles, the 1922 silent film \u201cNosferatu,\u201d performances under the rotundas of Marywood University and the Luzerne County Courthouse; \u201cSavor the Sounds\u201d programs pairing food and drinks with music; a rock-and-roll \u201cElectric Strings\u201d program at Mohegan Pennsylvania in Plains Twp.; \u201cTaste the Seasons\u201d with a four-course tasting menu at Montage Mountain Resort; country music in Scranton, and holiday events in Scranton, Wilkes-Barre, Dallas and Honesdale.<\/p>\n

The Philharmonic has tripled the number of its annual concerts compared to two years ago, with over 30 upcoming performances and educational programs across five counties over the next year.<\/p>\n

The website and other marketing materials have been redesigned for simplicity and to reflect an audience-first and experience-centric approach to cross-genre performances and community programs.
