The mayor of Pittsburgh is pushing back on Morgan Wallen\u2019s claim that his conversation with city officials led him to cancel his concert over weather concerns.<\/a><\/p>\n

Wallen, 33, announced Saturday afternoon that his Still The Problem tour concert that night at the city\u2019s Acrisure Stadium would be canceled due to scattered storms in the area. The controversial country singer <\/a>said that after speaking with \u201clocal officials,\u201d he had \u201cno choice\u201d but to call off the show.<\/p>\n

However, Pittsburgh Mayor Corey O\u2019Connor denied that any conversation with city officials took place and said that Wallen had \u201cno contact\u201d before making his decision.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo City of Pittsburgh officials met with or consulted with the tour about the cancellation,\u201d a spokesperson for O\u2019Connor told The Independent.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was no contact to Public Safety or my administration, so however the artist and his team picked to not have the show, that was on them,\u201d O\u2019Connor, 41, told KDKA Radio, according to Audacy<\/a>. \u201cIf you\u2019re going to say that you consulted… that\u2019s one story. We, again, had no record of that, from public safety director all the way down.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Wallen canceled the show, he wrote in a statement: \u201cSafety for my fans and crew is the highest priority. Refunds available at point of purchase.\u201d<\/p>\n

Backlash immediately ensued<\/a> Saturday as fans complained that canceling the show was unnecessary because the predicted thunderstorms were not near the concert venue, and the bad weather ended hours before the show was scheduled to begin.<\/p>\n

The criticism led Wallen to issue a video statement on his Instagram Story, lashing out at \u201cnonsense rumors.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThis morning, my team walked on my bus and told me they had been consulting with local officials and that I should cancel my show in Pittsburgh tonight and I said, \u2018Why?\u2019\u201d the \u201cLast Night\u201d singer said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said that there was going to be strong winds in the area, and I said, \u2018OK.\u2019 So, that is what I did and that was the information I had in the moment, and I trusted my team,\u201d he continued. \u201cI understand that wind hasn’t gotten to Pittsburgh yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cThe truth of the matter is, I have a large stage that, in those conditions, could become fatal to a lot of folks around it. So, I did the best I could with the information I had in that moment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wallen concluded, \u201cI\u2019ve been seeing a lot of nonsense about me that is simply not true, and I just wanted to clear the air,\u201d Wallen added. \u201cI think my true fans know that that\u2019s not how I operate in general, but I had to say it. Y\u2019all take care.\u201d<\/p>\n
