Could Erie become home to a National War of 1812 Museum? That question was the focus of a meeting held Thursday at the Jefferson Educational Society.<\/p>\n
A cross-section of community leaders gathered with representatives from Lord Cultural Resources, a cultural planning firm with offices in Toronto and around the world that specializes in museums, cultural districts, and the creative economy.<\/p>\n
The firm is conducting a feasibility study to evaluate Erie\u2019s concept for a National War of 1812 Museum. The study will examine a variety of factors, including the visitor experience, operational needs, staffing requirements, and the overall viability of the project.<\/p>\n
The idea of locating a national museum in Erie has already received support from historian and author Douglas Brinkley, who has promoted the city as a fitting location due to its significant role in the War of 1812 and the Battle of Lake Erie.<\/p>\n
During their visit, representatives from Lord Cultural Resources met with local stakeholders and toured potential sites that could house the museum.<\/p>\n
Officials say the process is still in its early stages. The planning phase of a feasibility study typically takes between six and eight months to complete.<\/p>\n
