An iconic, family-run bakery – known for its fresh breads, cakes, doughnuts and pastries \u2013 is marking a major milestone in the Lehigh Valley.<\/p>\n
Vallos Bakery, offering a wide array of scratch-made baked goods, is celebrating 100 years of business with a tasty deal: $1 doughnuts every Thursday at its main location, 1800 Broadway in Salisbury Township, and its two stands at the Allentown Fairgrounds Farmers Market, 302 N. 17th St. in Allentown, co-owner Tina Hanuschak told 69 News.<\/p>\n
Hanuschak operates Vallos with her husband, Scott Hanuschak, and two sons, Trevor and Parker.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re really thankful to our loyal customers who keep on coming back,\u201d Tina said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPersonally, I\u2019ve been here a very long time. I worked here as a kid, and I still see customers coming in who I remember from way back in the day when I was a store clerk.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tina Hanuschak is a third-generation operator of Vallos, which originated in 1926 on Third Street in south Bethlehem.<\/p>\n
Her grandfather, Stephanos Skoutelas, worked at the bakery after moving to the United States from Greece.<\/p>\n
When the bakery was put up for sale, Skoutelas and his wife, Kathleen, purchased it from Vallos Baking Company and later moved the business about two miles southwest to Broadway in Salisbury Township.<\/p>\n
When Stephanos passed away, the bakery was then handed down to his three sons – Nicholas, George and Gus.<\/p>\n
“When they retired in 2005, my husband and I bought it from them,” said Tina, Nicholas’ daughter.<\/p>\n

Over the years, the Hanuschaks updated baking equipment, invested in new delivery trucks, hired additional bakers and launched a new line of freshly baked pastries and cakes.<\/p>\n
They also temporarily closed the bakery for several months during the pandemic for renovations, and they installed new fa\u00e7ade signage in 2023.<\/p>\n
Vallos, which has a tagline of “baking a difference in the Lehigh Valley,” is known for its fresh rolls including hot dog, hamburger, Kaiser and steak.<\/p>\n
The business also makes a variety of breads, including French, Italian, Vienna and Greek, along with its dozens of doughnut varieties, including Bavarian custard, chocolate crullers and lemon crumb.<\/p>\n
Other sweet treats include a variety of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, pies, turnovers, streudels, eclairs, biscotti and cannolis.<\/p>\n
In addition to operating its retail locations, Vallos also delivers its baked goods to restaurants, stores and other businesses as part of its wholesale business, Tina said.<\/p>\n

“Everything is made from scratch,” Tina said. “Our cakes are homemade. Our doughnuts are homemade. Our pastries are homemade. Our icings are homemade. That’s why people like everything.”<\/p>\n
In 2023, Vallos Bakery opened a stand at the Allentown Fairgrounds Farmers Market, and in 2025, the business opened a second location at the farmers market due to increased demand, Tina said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne [stand] is on the lower level next to the grocery area, and the other is at the top of the ramp,\u201d Tina said. \u201cWe split up some things and opened another stand because we just didn\u2019t have enough room any longer.\u201d<\/p>\n
The bakery locations offer a wide selection of treats, including more than 20 varieties of doughnuts.<\/p>\n
Popular doughnut selections include strawberry, chocolate cinnamon, Oreo-stuffed, Bavarian cream and various crullers, including blueberry, chocolate and vanilla.<\/p>\n
The $1 doughnut deal, celebrating the bakery\u2019s 100th anniversary, is valid on all doughnuts and will likely run through the end of the year, Tina said.<\/p>\n
Vallos also offers seasonal and holiday specials, including pumpkin pies, pumpkin crullers and pumpkin mousse-filled doughnuts around Thanksgiving, and various kiffles and nut tossies around Christmas.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will also be the second year that we\u2019re supplying blueberry pies for Bethlehem\u2019s Blueberry Festival in July,\u201d Tina said. \u201cWe make around 600 pies.\u201d<\/p>\n
