Members of Congress will gather at Philadelphia\u2019s Independence Hall to celebrate the nation\u2019s 250th anniversary, Rep. Brendan Boyle (D., Philadelphia) announced on Thursday. The gathering is set to take place on July 2, 2026, exactly 250 years after the Second Continental Congress voted for American independence.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Boyle wrote he had worked for years to bring a historic gathering to Philadelphia for America\u2019s semiquincentennial celebration.<\/p>\n
\u201cExactly two years ago I launched this effort to bring Members of Congress, both Democrats and Republicans, back to the place where it all began 250 years ago: Independence Hall,\u201d Boyle said. \u201cI am very proud and excited this historic and special event is happening. It will be a unifying moment for the Congress and our country, at a time when we need it most.\u201d<\/p>\n
Boyle did not reveal which congressional members will be part of the gathering but a spokesperson wrote more details regarding the participants and programming will be announced at a later date.<\/p>\n
