A South Philadelphia neighborhood gathered Thursday night to honor 22-year-old Billy Schmidt<\/a> as police continued investigating his killing.<\/p>\n

Sources told Action News that evidence from a separate robbery may help investigators determine who was involved in Schmidt’s killing. Sources said a juvenile is being questioned.<\/p>\n

Family members, friends and local leaders filled the area near the 1900 block of Durfor Street, where Schmidt, a Penn State senior, was shot and killed early Saturday morning in what police described as an apparent robbery.<\/p>\n

A memorial of candles, signs and flowers has continued to grow at the site.<\/p>\n

“He always said a kind word about everybody. Never said anything bad, and that’s why it’s so shocking what occurred,” Schmidt’s father, Bill Schmidt, said.<\/p>\n

He added, “I just hope he’s looking down to see how much everyone loves him.”<\/p>\n

Police have released images of the two suspects.<\/p>\n

One resident, Anthony Giordano, said, “You’re going to be caught. It’s just a matter of time.”<\/p>\n

Community members described Schmidt as a warm, outgoing young man whose kindness drew people in.<\/p>\n

“Billy Schmidt is everybody’s son because he’s an innocent victim. It could have been any of our children,” said Ellen Murphy of Washington Township.<\/p>\n

Friends said the large turnout at the vigil reflected the impact Schmidt had on those around him.<\/p>\n

“He was a kid that talked to everyone, and no one was too cool for Billy,” said friend Liam McCusker.<\/p>\n

Another friend told the crowd, “You have left a lasting impact on anyone you have ever spoken to…Bill’s legacy is unmatched. Something for all of us to rise to.”<\/p>\n

They also shared one of the lessons they believe Schmidt leaves behind: “Don’t take anyone for granted. You don’t know how much you love them until they’re actually gone. We love you, Billy, and we’re going to miss you forever, and we’ll never let anyone ever forget about you.”<\/p>\n

Schmidt will be laid to rest on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Police are asking anyone with information about the suspects to come forward.<\/p>\n
