\n\tPitt\u2019s right-to-know disclosures for the 2024-25 fiscal year once again provide some insight into the University.<\/p>\n
\n\tTotal revenue was up to $3.57 billion from $3.42 billion in 2023-24, but so were total expenses to $3.51 billion from $3.39 billion. Pitt was in the black for both years, and the gap between revenue and expenses increased in 2024-25 from $30 million to $60 million.<\/p>\n
\n\tOther highlights:<\/p>\n
\n\t\t\tThe endowment increased to $6.19 billion from $5.84 billion<\/p>\n
\n\t\t\tResearch revenue from grants and contracts was at $1.25 billion, up from $1.2 billion.<\/p>\n
\n\t\t\tSpending on outside legal fees dropped to $15.9 million from $19.3 million in 2023-24.<\/p>\n
\n\t\t\tCompensation paid to current officers, directors, trustees and key employees also dropped to $8.25 million from $8.57 million.<\/p>\n
\n\t\t\tThe total paid for salaries for all other Pitt employees went up to $1.49 billion from $1.41 billion.<\/p>\n
\n\t\t\tTotal compensation, including benefits, for all employees increased from $1.85 billion to $1.94 billion.<\/p>\n
\n\t\t\tThe largest research subcontracts were paid to Carnegie Mellon, $7.92 million; the University of California, $7.47 million; and Washington University in St. Louis, $7.08 million.<\/p>\n
\n\t\t\tThe top three independent contractors paid by the University were Compass Group, which provides food service on the Oakland campus, at $51.9 million, and two Pittsburgh-based construction firms: Mascaro Barton-Malow ($50.8 million), which worked on the Recreation and Wellness Center, and PJ Dick Inc. ($50 million), which has been involved in several campus projects.<\/p>\n
\n\t\t\tA total of 20,223 students received institutional aid, which amounted to $293 million. Another 2,504 students received tuition remission under Pitt\u2019s educational benefits for employees, at a cost of $34.1 million, and 44 children of Pitt employees attending other universities received $898,066 million in tuition remission.<\/p>\n
\n\t\t\tRevenue from tuition was up from $1.02 billion in 2023-24 to $1.04 billion for 2024-25.<\/p>\n
\tOfficers and other key employees<\/p>\n
\n\tThe IRS 990 form list of University officers, directors, and key employees (with base pay and total compensation, which includes retirement, bonuses and nontaxable items, such as health care) for calendar year 2024 (asterisks indicate those who are new to the list):<\/p>\n
\n\tPat Narduzzi, head football coach: $5.97 million in base pay; up $500,000 from 2023-24. Total compensation of $7.29 million includes bonus and incentive pay of just over $1 million<\/p>\n
\n\tJeff Capel, head men\u2019s basketball coach: $3.73 million in base pay; up about $160,000. Total compensation: $3.93 million<\/p>\n
\n\tJeffer Choudhry, chief investment officer: $756,464 base pay. Total compensation of $2.08 million includes $1.27 million for two years of bonus and incentive pay.<\/p>\n
\n\tAnantha Shekhar, SVC for Health Sciences and dean of the School of Medicine: $1.08 million base pay \/ $1.7 million total compensation, including $400,000 in bonus and incentive pay.<\/p>\n
\n\tJoan Gabel, chancellor: $943,964 base pay. Total compensation $1.22 million , including $122,652 in bonus and incentive pay.<\/p>\n
\n\tHeather Lyke, athletic director until September 2024: $929,441 \/ $1.19 million<\/p>\n
\n\tRandy Bates, assistant football coach\/defensive coordinator who retired in December 2025: $840,740 \/ $940,667<\/p>\n
