L. MILFORD TWP., Pa. – Local lawmakers say funding is helping preserve farms in the Lehigh Valley.<\/p>\n
A 32-acre crop farm in Lower Milford Township, Lehigh County is being preserved, according to a news release from Rep. Milou Mackenzie (R-Lehigh\/Montgomery\/Northampton).<\/p>\n
The preservation of the property was made possible through a $296,832 investment by the state, Mackenzie\u2019s office says.<\/p>\n
Richard K. and Nina Fair own the property.<\/p>\n
Mackenzie\u2019s office says the farm is among 22 farms across Pennsylvania approved for preservation by the State Agricultural Land Preservation Board.<\/p>\n
In a news release, the office of Rep. Ann Flood (R-Northampton) said a a 30-acre crop farm in Lower Mount Bethel Township is also being preserved.<\/p>\n
$213,764 in state funds are going towards the preservation of that farm, which is owned by Jonathan A. and Angela M. Templeton.<\/p>\n
Through the Farmland Preservation Program, development rights are purchased from willing landowners to ensure preserved farms remain dedicated to agricultural use and are protected from future residential or commercial development, Mackenzie\u2019s office says.<\/p>\n
Mackenzie\u2019s office says Pennsylvania’s Farmland Preservation Program has protected 6,726 farms and more than 667,000 acres in 58 counties since its creation in 1988.<\/p>\n
Statewide, nearly $8.8 million was invested to preserve 1,775 acres on 22 farms through the board’s latest round of approvals, according to the news release from Mackenzie\u2019s office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"L.
