Set in a Connecticut pizza place, it pits working-class girls against the privileged country club set. It includes songs of the era, such as \u201cGirls Just Want to Have Fun,\u201d \u201cHold On,\u201d \u201cNothing\u2019s Gonna Stop Us Now\u201d and \u201cHit Me with Your Best Shot.\u201d<\/p>\n
Next is \u201cBeetlejuice,\u201d which is also a movie adaptation but was reimagined as a Broadway musical. Based on Tim Burton\u2019s humorous ghost story, it arrives Dec. 11-13. It had three separate runs on Broadway in recent years, totaling around 790 performances. It was nominated for several Tonys but did not win any.<\/p>\n
\u201cHadestown\u201d has been on Broadway for seven years and is also playing in the West End, the London equivalent of Broadway. It will be in Scranton on Feb. 19\u201321. It is a love story that intertwines two epic myths, Orpheus and Eurydice and that of King Hades and his wife, Persephone, and is partly set in Hades, or the underworld. \u201cHadestown\u201d won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and awards for score, costumes and scenic design.<\/p>\n
The Tony-winning \u201cJersey Boys,\u201d a toe-tapping and sometimes tragic take on the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, will be in Scranton April 16-18. The show is again on tour for its 20th anniversary. It ran on Broadway for 11 years and won Best Musical in 2006. The score includes \u201cSherry,\u201d \u201cBig Girls Don\u2019t Cry,\u201d \u201cOh What a Night,\u201d \u201cWalk Like a Man,\u201d \u201cCan\u2019t Take My Eyes Off You,\u201d \u201cBeggin\u2019\u201d and \u201cWorking My Way Back to You.\u201d It won a Grammy.<\/p>\n
\u201cShucked,\u201d a proudly corny Broadway musical comedy, will sprout up May 14-16. As the corn that protects the farm community begins to die, a hero has to venture beyond the borders of Cobb County for help. It was on Broadway for 11 months and was nominated for several Tony Awards in 2023. It lost Best Musical to \u201cKimberly Akimbo.\u201d<\/p>\n
The season will end with \u201cA Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical\u201d on July 23-25, 2027. Diamond collaborated on the musical, which includes his hits of the \u201860s to the \u201880s, including \u201cAmerica,\u201d \u201cForever in Blue Jeans\u201d and \u201cSweet Caroline.\u201d It closed on Broadway in 2024, after 19 months and no Tony Award nominations.<\/p>\n
