(WOLF) \u2014 The world&#8217;s largest operating steam locomotive is making its way across Northeastern Pennsylvania this weekend, and communities from Duryea to White Haven to Nicholson are preparing for thousands of visitors hoping to catch a glimpse of Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a roundup of important information, viewing tips, traffic impacts and special events surrounding Big Boy&#8217;s visit.<\/p>\n<p>Forgotten Big Boy history<\/p>\n<p>Scranton is lucky to have a Big Boy on display &#8211; but it almost lost it! <a href=\"https:\/\/fox56.com\/news\/local\/forgotten-history-congress-tried-to-take-scrantons-big-boy-in-2002-now-a-reunion-looms#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Read the story about how the Big Boy 4012 was almost taken away.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Parking, shuttles, and buses<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the comprehensive <a href=\"https:\/\/fox56.com\/news\/local\/know-before-you-go-parking-traffic-details-for-big-boy-locomotive-reunion-in-scranton#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">FOX56 guide to everything you need<\/a> to know while visiting.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/COLTSbus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">COLTS<\/a> has shuttle buses running constantly throughout the day <a href=\"https:\/\/fox56.com\/news\/local\/colts-expands-service-as-thousands-expected-for-big-boy-locomotive-visit-in-scranton#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Monday and Tuesday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Track the train<\/p>\n<p>Union Pacific is providing a<a href=\"https:\/\/www.up.com\/about-us\/history\/steam\/track\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> live tracking map <\/a>so rail fans can follow Big Boy&#8217;s progress throughout its journey.<\/p>\n<p>Steamtown closure Sunday<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/steamtownnhs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Steamtown National Historic Site<\/a> will be completely closed Sunday, June 14, as crews prepare for Big Boy&#8217;s arrival.<\/p>\n<p>The closure includes:<\/p>\n<p>Park groundsRail yardMuseumsBookstoreParking lot<\/p>\n<p>Officials remind visitors that entry into the park is prohibited on June 14.<\/p>\n<p>Big Boy on display in Scranton<\/p>\n<p>Massive crowds are <a href=\"https:\/\/fox56.com\/news\/local\/steamtown-prepare-for-massive-crowds-as-union-pacific-big-boy-4014-chugs-closer#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">expected at Steamtown.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Beginning June 17 and continuing through June 30, Big Boy No. 4014 will be on display alongside Steamtown&#8217;s Big Boy No. 4012.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/steamtownnhs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Steamtown<\/a> officials say operations will largely return to normal during that period, including:<\/p>\n<p>On-site parkingLimited short train ridesViewing opportunities for both Big Boy locomotivesDuryea viewing schedule<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/duryea.police\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Duryea police <\/a>released the following anticipated schedule:<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, June 13<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 11:25 a.m. \u2014 Big Boy shoves through Duryea via Boylan Drive, Foote Avenue, Railroad Street and Phoenix Street toward Pittston Yard.Approximately 2 p.m. \u2014 Big Boy departs Pittston Yard and returns through Duryea.Reading &amp; Northern 2102 is expected to follow shortly behind.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday, June 14<\/p>\n<p>Approximately 12:35 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. \u2014 Big Boy again moves through Duryea toward Pittston Yard.Approximately 3 p.m. \u2014 Big Boy departs Pittston Yard and returns through Duryea.Reading &amp; Northern 2102 is expected to follow.Nicholson isn&#8217;t the only hotspot<\/p>\n<p>While much of the attention has focused on the Tunkhannock Creek Viaduct in Nicholson, officials in Nesquehoning are preparing for crowds that could exceed 10,000 people.<\/p>\n<p>White Haven viewing information<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/whitehavenpd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">White Haven police<\/a> say public viewing will be permitted from the White Haven Area Community Library property.<\/p>\n<p>However:<\/p>\n<p>Parking is NOT permitted at the library.Visitors should park in designated public parking areas.Lehigh Gorge State Park parking lots north and south of town are recommended.Chromebook pickup postponed<\/p>\n<p>The Scranton School District has postponed Chromebook pickup at West Scranton High School&#8217;s girls&#8217; The car was used by Franklin D. Roosevelt during his time as governor of New York and later as president.
