One day after a 15-month-old girl was found dead in a car in Northampton County, authorities have not released new information.

The girl was found dead about 4:30 p.m. Thursday in a vehicle at a parking lot in the 4800 block of Hanoverville Road, an industrial area in Lower Nazareth Township.

Police and EMS were called there for a report of an unresponsive child in the car, according to emergency radio dispatches. When they arrived, authorities found the child was deceased.

Northampton County District Attorney Stephen Baratta told reporters gathered at the scene Thursday evening that the car where the girl was found belonged to her father, and that “allegedly the child had been in the car for some time, as in all day,” according to multiple reports.

Reached by phone, he told The Morning Call that the car was initially at a different parking lot, before it was met by authorities at the Hanoverville Road location.

In an update Friday afternoon, Baratta said Colonial Regional Police have interviewed witnesses and processed evidence, but it was too early to release additional information or make a formal announcement about any possible criminal charges.

“The Office of the District Attorney and the Colonial Regional Police Department will make further announcements regarding this investigation as new information comes forward,” he said.

Though officials have not said what caused the girl’s death, it came amid several several days of oppressive heat and humidity in the Lehigh Valley. The region was under a heat advisory Thursday and Friday for temperatures in the 90s and heat index values near 100. Thursday’s high temperature at Lehigh Valley International Airport was 93, just one degree shy of the record of 94, according to the National Weather Service.

Kids and Car Safety, a nonprofit organization that spreads awareness of the dangers of children and pets left in hot vehicles, said the child’s death, should it be deemed to be caused by being left in a hot car, would be at least the sixth child to die in a hot car nationwide this year.

At least 1,178 children have died from being in hot cars since 1990 in the United States, according to the organization.

One day after a 15-month-old girl was found dead in a car in Northampton County, authorities have not…

[14
153,155,154,202,182,139,432
post-219038","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-bethlehem","tag-bethlehem","tag-bethlehem-headlines","tag-bethlehem-news","tag-crime-and-public-safety","tag-local-news","tag-news","tag-top-stories-tmc
["GET
