Just days after Hurricane Melissa swept through Jamaica and Haiti, locals are working to pick up the pieces.<\/p>\n

According to the Associated Press, the storm that slammed into Jamaica on Tuesday, October 28, as a category 5 hurricane killed at least 19 people on that island and another 31 in Haiti.<\/p>\n

The recovery has just begun for those who call Jamaica home and the tourists who now can\u2019t leave.<\/p>\n

One Erie native, Edward Fisher, is stuck in Negril, Jamaica, where he arrived on vacation 2 weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Fisher said he and others have been taking refuge in a local hotel until the area recovers. <\/p>\n

Edward Fisher said, \u201cI\u2019ve been here for a couple hurricanes, and this one was quite something. We will not have power for days. We will not have cell service for days. Hopefully, we\u2019ll have enough food to carry us on. I hope everyone is doing well in the United States. Pray for us cause we\u2019ll need it.\u201d<\/p>\n
