A police chief who worked for the City of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for three decades was forced into retirement this week because of a Facebook post that he shared on his page disparaging NBA players, the city\u2019s mayor said in a statement Friday.\n<\/p>\n

Chief Mark DiLuzio\u2019s departure came a few days after he apparently shared what Mayor Robert Donchez described as \u201can offensive Facebook post.\u201d\n <\/p>\n

The mayor also said he respects DiLuzio\u2019s decades of service to the city and that Donchez would not let DiLuzio\u2019s Facebook share \u201coutweigh our appreciation for the Chief\u2019s dedication and service to the City of Bethlehem for the over 30 years,\u201d\u00a0according to the mayor\u2019s statement on the city website<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

The post reportedly involved an image of Lebron James and disparaged NBA players because of their protests over the shooting of Jacob Blake, a Black man shot and killed by police in Wisconsin.\n<\/p>\n

DiLuzio also reportedly took down the post and apologized to friends and colleagues for sharing the post,\u00a0according to LehighValleyLive.com<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n

\u201cChief DiLuzio has accepted that his standing in the community has been compromised,\u201d\u00a0Donchez said in his statement<\/a>. \u201cThis has happened at a time when the citizens of Bethlehem justly expect the effectiveness of their Chief of Police to be beyond reproach.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
