Jordan Kohlmeyer, said he was sitting on the front porch with his dog as the rain began falling. Moments later, he went inside, shut the door and heard the boom.”It sounded like a plane landed inside my house,” Kohlmeyer said. “That’s how hard it was. That’s how hard it hit. That’s how close the sound was too. It was insane. I’ve never heard anything like it.”The tree destroyed the home’s back porch and landed on the gas line. Ventura said she had moved her car a day earlier than usual because of street sweeping, and was feeling lucky that she did.”It’s right where your car was,'” her daughter Yvonne Pickens said. “My car was just there not long ago, you know?”Residents said many of the trees that caused significant damage were large and decades old. John Kassell, who lives on Park Road, said neighbors had long worried about some of the aging trees.Sunday night, those fears became reality.”Watching the tree sway back and forth, and then all of a sudden, a big gust of wind came by, and off went the limb and down it came,” Kassell said.Despite having lived through severe weather before, residents said they have never experienced anything this close to home.
