The Erie County Public Library (ECPL) is inviting readers of all ages to take part in its summer reading challenge, “Founding Stories: An America250 Celebration,” running from June 15 until August 22.<\/p>\n
The program encourages participants to explore American history while celebrating the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary. Participants can track their reading, attend library programs, and engage with educational activities throughout the summer for chances to win prizes.<\/p>\n
According to ECPL, every completed challenge entry earns participants opportunities to win from more than 40 prizes, including LEGO\u00ae sets, gift cards to local businesses, passes to Erie attractions, and other community-favorite rewards.<\/p>\n
Library officials say the challenge is designed to appeal to readers of all ages and interests, including those who may not typically participate in reading programs.<\/p>\n
As part of the celebration, the Raymond M. Blasco, M.D. Memorial Library, located at 160 E. Front Street, will host a Summer Reading Celebration on June 20, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.<\/p>\n
The kickoff event will feature outdoor games, crafts and activities, an interactive living history exhibit, an America250 bell-ringing ceremony, and free books and frozen treats while supplies last. Community partners participating in the event include Werner Books, Erie Insurance, Erie’s Public Schools, Kona Ice, and Alsie’s.<\/p>\n
The library’s summer schedule also includes more than 400 programs, such as Monday Makers in the Idea Lab, the Founding Stories Family Book Club, the 8th Annual Blasco Worm Races, Board Game Night, Teen: Explore Your Past, and many other activities.<\/p>\n
ECPL officials say the challenge is open to everyone, from young children to senior citizens, emphasizing that reading can be enjoyed at any age.<\/p>\n
