The Pittsburgh Steelers have released linebacker Daylan Carnell<\/a>, the team announced on Monday<\/a>. Carnell was signed in April as an undrafted free agent out of Missouri.<\/p>\n

Carnell, who stands at 6-foot-2, 233 pounds, recorded 175 career tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, 22 passes defended, five interceptions, four forced fumbles and three sacks in his five seasons at Missouri. Carnell played a hybrid safety\/linebacker role in Missouri\u2019s defense the last three years. He also returned two interceptions for touchdowns in his career.<\/p>\n

In 2025, Carnell made 12 starts and played in all 13 games. He posted 41 tackles (22 solo) with 6.5 for loss \u2026 Picked off one pass and batted four others down. The Indianapolis native was a three-year starter at Missouri.<\/p>\n

Carnell\u2019s best season came in 2023, when he registered 51 tackles, six tackles for loss, seven pass deflections, two forced fumbles, and a pick six.<\/p>\n

Carnell is projected to be a linebacker the pro level. At his pro day, he ran a 4.89 in the 40-yard dash.<\/p>\n

He scored a 5.76 Relative Athletic Score<\/a> (RAS) out of a possible 10.00. This ranked 557 out of 1311 free safeties from 1987 to 2026.<\/p>\n

In a corresponding move, the Steelers signed wide receiver Levi Wentz<\/a> to a one-year contract. The Steelers also parted ways with punter Aidan Laros<\/a> on Monday. <\/p>\n

Wentz originally signed with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft. Wentz was waived<\/a> by Seattle on June 8 in a corresponding roster move after the team signed veteran offensive tackle Bobby Hart.<\/p>\n

Wentz played at three different schools in college \u2014 Old Dominion, Albany and Kansas. At Kansas in 2025, he recorded 16 receptions for 258 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games. That was his lone season with the Jayhawks.<\/p>\n

He transferred from Albany, where he appeared in 24 games and had 53 receptions with two touchdowns. Wentz played at Old Dominion from 2021 to 2022 before transferring to Albany.<\/p>\n

Wentz is a Pittsburgh native. He played his high school ball at Pine-Richland.<\/p>\n
