Nick Coreno<\/p>\n
Jamestown Community College recently announced Nick Coreno as the new head coach of Jayhawk wrestling. <\/p>\n
\u201cTo say we\u2019re thrilled to have a former All-American wrestler taking over the program here at JCC is an understatement,\u201d said George Sisson, athletic director. \u201cNick has a college wrestling resume that is hard to match and, even more importantly, brings an academic standard that may be unmatched.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing able to give the kids a shot at achieving their wrestling and academic goals is my top mission,\u201d Cerone said. \u201cI am excited to build a culture where it\u2019s not only a family but also a brotherhood within the JCC wrestling room. It is a great opportunity to give back to the wrestling community while also staying involved in a sport that I am very passionate about.\u201d<\/p>\n
Coreno is a 2025 graduate of Gannon University, where he was an All-American wrestler at 165 pounds and a two-time NCAA Division II national qualifier.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy recent success on the college wrestling scene allows me to demonstrate what it takes to be successful on and off the mats,\u201d Coreno said.<\/p>\n
As important as winning is to the new Jamestown resident, Coreno was also an academic All-American for the Golden Knights. Excelling in the classroom will be an expectation for his Jayhawks.<\/p>\n
\u201cI treat school as a non-negotiable,\u201d Coreno said. \u201cJCC can set up our wrestlers on the right path for their futures.\u201d<\/p>\n
While this is Coreno\u2019s first stint as a college coach, he has a clear conception for his program from Day 1.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe vision is to build a team where guys are excited and motivated to come wrestle,\u201d he said. \u201cNot only a lot of success on the mats, but also a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
The four-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference scholar-athlete also touched on his coaching style.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m going to be on the mats. I want to be an example who is able to show my techniques and wrestling style,\u201d he said. \u201cThe guys will be able to learn and train better because I will be able to drill with them in live scenarios.\u201d<\/p>\n
That all leads to what Coreno is looking for in his future Jayhawks.<\/p>\n
\u201cI would like to see our students in practice and competition giving everything they have. Not back down to any opponents or situations,\u201d he said. \u201cI am looking for guys who love to wrestle. Ones that have big goals and are willing to take the steps necessary to get better in all aspects of the sport. We\u2019re looking to grab guys who have goals to make it to the top from the tri-state area and beyond.\u201d<\/p>\n
Coreno and the 2026-27 JCC wrestling squad will begin their season in October.<\/p>\n
