The grant funding was used for excavation, site prep, and construction of a round pen \u2014 a dedicated training space designed to enhance the safety, readiness, and performance of the mounted police horses and officers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">The newly constructed round pen provides a controlled environment for foundational training, conditioning, and skill development. This purpose-built facility allows officers to safely work with their horse partners on essential maneuvers, desensitization exercises, and trust-building techniques that are vital for effective patrol work in urban and community settings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cThe Bethlehem Police Department\u2019s Mounted Patrol Unit is an asset to our City as it patrols our nature trails and parks best served by hoofs or provides important community outreach and education to our citizens,\u201d Sen. Lisa Boscola stated. \u201cI was so pleased to secure funding for Friends of the Bethlehem Mounted Police as they continue to work toward ensuring the best care for the equine officers and providing first-class stables and facilities. The Mounted Unit helps build a strong relationship between the Department and the Community they serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Mounted police play a unique role in Bethlehem, offering a highly visible and approachable presence at festivals, parades, parks, and while on patrol. The dedicated training space helps ensure the horses remain calm, responsive, and confident in busy public settings, enhancing both safety and positive community interactions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">\u201cThis investment in training infrastructure directly supports the mission of the Bethlehem Mounted Police,\u201d said Marissa Zondag, FBMP Board President. \u201cA dedicated round pen allows our unit to train more efficiently, safely, and consistently, ensuring both horses and officers are prepared to serve the community at the highest level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">Friends of the Bethlehem Mounted Police extends sincere thanks to State Sen. Lisa Boscola for her support of this project and her ongoing advocacy for local public safety initiatives.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__body\">The grant-funded project included excavation and site preparation to create proper drainage and footing, followed by construction of the round pen tailored to the needs of mounted patrol training.
